Lühikirjeldus: This work comprises an agglomeration of narratives, moving like tectonic platelets across the body of the text, ostensibly disparate but occasionally converging and mutually embedding one another with sediments that may alter or engender meaning. Framed asan exercise in psychocartography, this project seeks to widen the act of mapping from a delineation or naming of strata and landmass, into an arena where one may transmute meaning from spatially mapped phenomena and the emotionally charged environs-as-energy that accompany them. At its core, this work attempts to bridge narratives of industrialization (and its sociopolitical legacies) with leisure culture, tying in psychospatial materia from Estonia & the USA and their regional-historical meaning-making systems. This sedimenting together becomes a lateral system from which to extract context and meaning, by means of a conceptual kind of mining. The raw material gleaned from this research will be treated as elemental components in the generation of a codex, for the building-up of the physical thesis work.Among other things, this work positions the rollercoaster as the doppelganger of the railroad, the latter representing the invisibilized conduit of industry abstracting the vein-system of extractive capitalism.The leisure culture made possible by the first cannot exist without the second. There is a spectrum to be revealed here, of pleasure at its zenith, with its necropolitical nadir in the livestock carts that bring prisoners to the work camp.
