Lühikirjeldus:
This thesis explores how relational and participatory design, care ethics, and design for play can support agency and self-efficacy in a small-scale, informal care setting. The project is based in an elderly day center in Lisbon, Portugal, where visitors often face isolation, cognitive decline, or physical limitations. Rather than aiming for efficiency or outcomes, the design centers on empathy, slowness, and shared authorship.A set of relational prompt cards invites both visitors and facilitators to co-create activities through informal dialogue and play. These feed into a final design component: a tactile “living document”: a cork board with changeable manifesto principles, an ideation area, and a “memory bank” of past reflections. This structure not only supports community participation over time, but also acts as a gentle thought catalyst — prompting reflection on care, age, and authorship, and inviting new ways of thinking about what design can do.
